Does your website need a makeover?
There are many ways to critique a website's content. One of the many options is to analyze your website's blog. Essentially blogs tell you the details of what is happening on your website.
Sharon Housley, who manages marketing for FeedForAll says that anyone who knows web marketing will tell you to analyze your blogs when looking to examine your own website content. Here are a few tips to help you understand why looking at your blog is important and what exactly the information is telling you about your website.
• Check to see how many visitors to your site receive an "Error/Page not found." Finding the number of "dead" links on your site will determine how many pages aren't available for viewers. When you know how many "dead" links your site has, you can then find the pages which aren't working and replace them, or remove the links from your site.
• Review where your web visitors are coming from. This will allow you to see which "adds" are working to direct traffic to your site.
• Find out where you are losing web traffic. Are there certain pages that your visitors choose to leave more often than other pages? Finding out the pages which lose visitors will give you insight into which pages contain information that the viewer is not interested in.
• Review your sites top search words and phrases. Are there certain phrases you are using in efforts to generate more traffic but they are just not working? Review which catch words and phrases are popular on your site and use those to boost hits to certain pages that you would like to generate more traffic for.
• Determine how many unique visitors your site is attracting. The amount of unique visitors (not hits) may be a useful indicator of how popular your site is.
• What is the average time spent on your website? Webmasters will try and attract viewers by using catchy titles but when page content fails the viewer may end up moving on to a new website. Look at the time spent on different pages throughout your site and determine which information is most popular to your viewers. Use this information to improve pages which yield a lower number of viewers.
Analyzing your blogs may seem like an on-going task but keeping track of trends and popular information on your site will give you a better idea of what content is working for your site and what is not. By understanding your website, you can use the information you develop to build popularity and return visitors. Also, work with your webmaster to make sure you are consistently bringing in viewers and traffic which are making donations to your cause.
