Are First Impressions Really that Important?

The notion of first impressions has been debated for years. Many think that the first time you encounter someone or something, can make an impression which lasts forever. A study done by C. Hobson and K. Heller on “Non-profit Agency Volunteer Friendliness” demonstrates the impact of initial treatment by staff on volunteer satisfaction, the continuation of volunteering and future intentions of the volunteer to make financial contributions.

Baby Boomer Volunteer Recruitment Strategies

A huge number of baby boomers will soon retire and charities will face new challenges in recruitment strategies. A February 04 article in the Leader-Post discusses the recent results of a study published by a charity in Ottawa, that concluded baby boomers want to help charities but, on their “own terms”. The article suggests new recruitment “tools” and advice for charities trying to attract baby boomers.
